Catch the Spirit of Highland Dance in Palm Harbor

Did you know Highland dancing is alive and well in Palm Harbor? 

The Palm Harbor Recreation Center began offering classes in 2012. Instructor Elizabeth Constantine, who also teaches in Safety Harbor, began Highland dance at the age of 8. She has performed and competed in Highland dance in the US, Europe and Asia. Ten years ago, Constantine became a certified instructor with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing. Most recently, she has performed with the Walt Disney Company at their resorts in Tokyo, Japan and Hong Kong, China.  

In pursuit of her passion for Highland dance, Constantine formed a dance school, Tampa Bay Highland Dancers, offering dance classes in North Pinellas county. Her students quickly develop a passion for the art as they learn Highland dance, develop friendships and prepare for performances and competitions. “It’s unlike any dance experience we’ve had,” comments the grandmother of one student. “My granddaughter has taken so much pride in being part of this program, and Ms. Elizabeth creates a very positive, supportive environment that fosters healthy bodies and self-confidence.” 

Highland dance, which originated in Scotland, has much in common with ballet and is a healthy workout for adults and for children. As a celebration of Celtic spirit, the Tampa Bay Highland Dancers were recently featured on the Studio 10 TV morning show in conjunction with the release of Disney•Pixar's Brave on DVD. Other recent performances include the Dunedin Celtic Festival and the upcoming Safety Harbor Holiday Parade.
