It's Tea Time Somewhere!

As a Brit who has recently been 'transplanted' from there to here, some local customs can be difficult to appreciate.

Being a fairly recent 'transplant' from England by way of Scotland, the Floridian culture shock has been quite challenging during this past year.  The upcoming November election not withstanding, I have become increasingly aware that the way to people's hearts and pockets is through relentless bombardment with advertisments.  Too be truthful, it is probably nationwide, but as I have chosen to live in Florida, I am having to learn how to deal with (if not avoid) the pleas for money, clothes, blood, cars and probably my soul, too.

After my first year in the sunshine state, I was close to ending up in financial discomfort as I am traditionally a sucker for a sob story.  Experience is a great teacher, and after a period of time where I would answer the phone in fear and trepidation because yet another 'poor soul' would be at the other end,  I have learned that if you don't recognize the phone number, let it go to voice mail.

My kids were threatening to use drastic measures to get me to learn this lesson, and if anything, I am a coward at heart.  British to the core, stiff upper lip always in evidence, but I dislike pain. The phone is ringing...  I will NOT answer it, I will NOT answer it, I will NOT answer it.
