"Because of Camp..." is a national marketing campaign being conducted by the American Camp Association. Palm Harbor Parks & Recreation is joining in to advertise the benefits to our local community.
As a parks and recreation professional, one of the busiest times of year is of course, summer camp. Here in Pinellas County, we get ten weeks of the kids while the teachers take a much-needed summer break. In Palm Harbor, that amounts to endless possibilities with local recreation departments and what they offer to keep those kids active, healthy and having a great time.
CSA Palm Harbor Parks & Recreation, the entity managing recreation services for the unincorporated community, is working together with the American Camp Association to advertise the benefits of a summer camp program.
“I learned to swim, shoot archery, hike on the trails and more in summer camp,” according to Mathew Eberius, Palm Harbor’s Recreation Specialist and Camp Director. Eberius spent much of his youth in summer programs in the upper Pinellas County region, and is now leading his own. “It’s a great experience for the kids and it’s an awesome way to spend your summer break.”

The American Camp Association, a nationwide professional group aimed at providing standards and education for camp programs throughout the United States, has launched a new marketing campaign aimed at bringing awareness to the benefits of summer camps. The “Because of Camp…” campaign features celebrities in the likes of Emma Roberts and Justin Chambers, the star of hit primetime show “Grey’s Anatomy,” telling their stories of what they learned in summer camp.
The new advertising campaign can be seen locally on the Palm Harbor summer camp website, www.PalmHarborCamps.com. CSA Palm Harbor’s Parks & Recreation Office is also working towards accreditation with the American Camp Association, which will set them above the rest in meeting certain standards, safety guidelines and programming areas.
