Tough Week for Ospreys & Bald Eagle

Updates on Palm Harbor ospreys and one from Birmingham, Alabama too!

Last week was a tough week for rescue and rehab. The person responsible for shooting the osprey in Palm Harbor has not been found.  The little baby that fell at the fields did not survive. One day we had 10 people out on calls with phones still ringing.  Besides losing the baby osprey, a bald eagle also died after a tough fight with a broken wing.  This came on the heels of losing several babies that were blown out of nests in high winds we have had recently.

There was a shining star for the week however, and all we can celebrate that success.  A team of rehabilitation organizations and volunteers managed to get an osprey from the Birmingham, Alabama area all the way to Tampa.  The osprey has a broken bone in the shoulder which will heal on its own at Save Our Seabirdsin Sarasota.  Save Our Seabirds has wonderful facility, includng a large osprey enclosure.  Save Our Seabirds is right across from the Mote Marine Aquarium. Both are great places to visit.
