GRAMMY Camps: Is Your Teen Interested in the Music Industry?

Oct. 22 is the deadline to apply for the 2012 GRAMMY Camp programs. The interactive residential summer camps were created by the GRAMMY Foundation.

Is your teenager curious about pursuing a career in the music industry? The GRAMMY Foundation is currently accepting applications for its 2012 GRAMMY Camp programs.

The GRAMMY Camp program offers selected high school students an interactive residential summer music experience. The camps focus on all aspects of commercial music and provide instruction by industry professionals with cutting-edge technology in professional facilities. 

The program offers seven music career tracks: Audio Engineering; Concert Promotion/Production; Electronic Music Production; Marketing & Management, Music Journalism; Songwriting and a Performance Track for Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocal, and Winds & Strings. All tracks culminate in media projects, recordings and/or showcase performances.

"The GRAMMY Foundation’s GRAMMY Camp and the GRAMMY Camp – Jazz Session are an ideal way for high school students to really experience what it's like to have a career in the music industry," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.

2012's GRAMMY Camp Los Angeles will take place July 14 – 23, 2012. It will be held at the University of Southern California (USC) Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles. Campers, Counselors and GRAMMY Camp Staff live in the USC dormitories and eat meals in the campus dining hall. Instruction is held in classrooms on campus and at venues throughout Los Angeles. The cost is $2,200.

2012's GRAMMY Camp Nashville will take place June 17-24, 2012. It will be held at Black River Entertainment on Nashville's Music Row. Campers, Counselors, and GRAMMY Staff live and dine in nearby housing accommodations. Instruction is held in facilities at Black River Entertainment, Black River at Sound Stage, Belmont University and at venues throughout Nashville. The cost is $2,000.

The program offers needs-based financial assistance. Organizers say 70% of GRAMMY Camp applicants who apply for financial assistance receive an award. More information about GRAMMY Camp.
