Lifestyle Family Fitness to Lay Off 94

Employees at the Palm Harbor Lifestyle Family Fitness location might not be impacted by looming layoffs.

Lifestyle Family Fitness, which is based in St. Petersburg, notified the state of Florida on Thursday that it plans to lay off 94 workers between August 16 and December 31. The state requires that companies file a Worker Adjustment and Notification Notice when they plan to lay off workers. The notification came a after the fitness industry online magazine, Club Industry published an article saying that LA Fitness was planning on buying Lifestyle Family Fitness clubs for an undisclosed price.

Calls about the layoffs made by Palm Harbor Patch to Lifestyle Family Fitness' corporate headquarters were not returned. However, Palm Harbor Patch did speak with an employee at the Palm Harbor Lifestyle Family Fitness. The employee -who did not want to be identified- said that individual Lifestyle Family Fitness locations were not notified about the impending layoffs and because of this, the employee speculated that cuts might not happen at individual locations. 

Club Industry is reporting that Lifestyle Family Fitness Naples location will close. But, the article did not mention what would happen to employees there. Jill Grueling, who is the LA Fitness Executive Vice President of Operations, told Club Industry that other Family Fitness locations could be relocated or closed and some others could be expanded or remodeled.

Greuling also told the magazine that all multi-club Lifestyle Family Fitness memberships will be honored and multi-club members will have access to all Lifestyle Family Fitness clubs. Access for single-club members will continue to be honored at the Lifestyle Family Fitness club where they originally joined.

Lifestyle Family Fitness has 33 clubs, all are located in Florida. LA Fitness has 63 clubs in Florida, including . .
