The Return of Ron DeSantis, GOP candidate for Florida Governor

- The candidate stops by for a "meet and greet"

TARPON SPRINGS, FL (March 12, 2018) - House Representative Ron DeSantis stopped by the Tampa Bay area to hold a "meet and greet" with local supporters in Tarpon Springs. Actually, it was a return for the House Republican as he is originally from neighboring Dunedin. Since 2013, he has served Florida's 6th Congressional District which extends from the southern Jacksonville suburbs to New Smyrna Beach, including Daytona Beach. The meeting was organized by supporter Jeff Antous of the North Pinellas Republican Club (NPRC).

After shaking hands and photo ops with supporters, Rep. DeSantis spoke to the group for approximately a half hour, describing his background and discussing the programs he supports.

Following graduation from Dunedin High School, the congressman worked his way through Yale University, where he graduated with honors and was the captain of the varsity baseball team. He also graduated with honors from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, he earned a commission in the US Navy as a JAG officer. During his active duty service he supported operations at the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and deployed to Iraq as an adviser to a US Navy SEAL commander in support of the SEAL mission in Fallujah, Ramadi and the rest of Al Anbar province. His military decorations include the bronze star medal for meritorious service and the Iraq campaign medal. He has also served as a federal and military prosecutor.

DeSantis' talk was well received by conservative attendees at the meeting, drawing considerable applause for such things as the need for a federal balanced budget, congressional term limits, teaching the Constitution in the classroom, school safety, support for law enforcement, and his opposition to recreational marijuana and Sanctuary Cities. He is an ardent supporter of the president, particularly the passage of the recent tax reform bill, and warned of Democrats reversing this process and raising taxes should they regain control of Congress.

At 39, DeSantis is personable yet has a no-nonsense demeaner about him when it comes to issues. Thanks to his training as an attorney, he exudes confidence and speaks with conviction. As such, he was well received by local Republicans.

He has already been endorsed by President Trump, Fox News’ Sean Hannity, and radio host Mark Levin.
