Board to Vote on School Zoning Today
The Pinellas County School Board will vote for the first time on a controversial proposal to send more than 3,000 kids back to their zoned schools next year.

Pinellas County School Board members will tackle the controversial issue of school rezoning during Tuesday's regular meeting. The board is scheduled to vote for the first time about a proposalΒ that would go into effect next school year and would send more than 3,000 kids back to schools that they're zoned for, as opposed to allowing them to attend schools outside the boundaries in which they live.
When school choice program ended in 2008, many students and their brothers and sisters were allowed to continue to attend schools that their parents had picked when the school choice policy was in effect.Β Because of this, some kids can't attend schools in their own zone due to overcrowding .Β
The school board has also proposed new school zoning boundaries for elementary schools, is impacted by this proposal.
