1. Communities have a lot of problems. The Civic Leader Summit has solutions (pnj.com) — Pensacola residents can soon join civic leaders from across the country at the Oct. 6-8 Civic Leader Summit, with keynotes and breakout sessions at the Saenger Theatre and Blue Wahoos Stadium. The conference focuses on practical ideas for safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and better local decision-making, with scholarships available so cost doesn't keep locals from attending.
2. Survey shows most want Pensacola Mardi Gras parade back on Palafox (weartv.com) — Downtown Pensacola's Mardi Gras parade route could soon move back to Palafox Street, after a new survey found about two-thirds of respondents prefer it over Jefferson Street. Downtown businesses were even more supportive, and the Downtown Improvement Board will review the results Tuesday before sending a recommendation to the city, weighing safety, float clearance, and crowd space.
3. Pensacola Lionfish Festival this weekend aims to protect reefs with lionfish removal (weartv.com) — Pensacola divers and festival-goers are teaming up this weekend at Palafox Pier to pull invasive lionfish from nearby reefs and learn how they threaten local marine life. With 71 registered divers already in the water and public education events planned, organizers hope to remove thousands of fish and give Gulf reefs near Pensacola a much-needed break from this aggressive predator.
