Pensacola Lionfish Festival this weekend aims to protect reefs with lionfish removal (weartv.com) — Pensacola divers and festival-goers are teaming up this weekend at Palafox Pier to pull invasive lionfish from nearby reefs and learn how they threaten local marine life. With 71 registered divers already in the water and public education events planned, organizers hope to remove thousands of fish and give Gulf reefs near Pensacola a much-needed break from this aggressive predator.
