2 Shot, Miami-Dade High School Placed On Lockdown
Coral Reef High School was placed on a lockdown while police secured the area.

MIAMI, FL β Two people were shot on Tuesday not far from Coral Reef High School and the facility was placed on a temporary lockdown while police secured the area. The shooting occurred at 6:15 a.m. at 112 Avenue and SW Booker T. Washington Boulevard. The Miami Dade-Police Department's Kendall District is investigating.
The victims were identified as 27-year-old Elena Maria Diaz of the 10000 block of SW 51 Street and 31-year-0ld Richard Acosta of the 16000 block of SW 139 Avenue.
"As the responding officers canvassed the area of dispatch, a Miami-Dade Schools Police Department ... police officer assigned to Coral Reef High School requested back-up," according to Detective Jennifer Capote of the Miami-Dade Police Department. She said that the officer first encountered Diaz on foot at SW 152 Street and 102 Avenue and then came across Acosta, who was in an SUV.

"Moments later, a second victim ... who also appeared to have been shot was located inside a Ford Expedition parked on SW 102 Avenue, just south of SW 152 Street," Capote said referring to Acosta.

Both victims were transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial South Hospital in stable condition.
"As a precaution, Coral Reef High School was placed on a temporary lockdown, and traffic was restricted in the area," Capote said. "The school and the roads have since reopened."
She said that investigators are still trying to determine what happened.
