Justin Bieber's Security Chief Charged With DUI
Justin Bieber's chief of security was charged with driving under the influence after he allegedly rear-ended two Miami-Dade police officers.

MIAMI, FL — The man who escorted singer Justin Bieber out of the Miami-Dade lockup in 2014, was himself charged with driving under the influence on Thursday after he allegedly rear-ended two Miami-Dade police officers and attempted to flee the scene of the crash in the wrong direction on busy SW 88th Street. Thirty-two-year-old Michael Arana was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and related offenses. Both of the officers suffered injuries and one was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Police said Arana refused a sobriety test. The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m not far from Arana's home in the 10000 block of SW 161 Avenue. He listed his occupation as security, but news organization's said that he was Bieber's head of security. Arana appeared as himself in the 2016 documentary: "Bodyguards: Secret Lives from the Watchtower."
"According to investigators, two officers in a marked police vehicle, were traveling westbound on SW 88 Street," Detective Det. Lee Cowart of the Miami-Dade Police Department said on Thursday. "As the police vehicle entered the intersection of SW 152 Avenue, a Chevy Tahoe, traveling at a high rate of speed, rear-ended the police vehicle."

Cowart said that Arana drove over a median strip and attempted to leave the scene by driving in the wrong direction on busy SW 88 Street, which is also called Kendall Drive.
Arana got about five blocks before he was stopped.

"Officers that were on an unrelated traffic stop at SW 157 Avenue and 88 Street, observed the Tahoe, stopped it, and took the driver, Michael Arana, into custody," Cowart added. "The officers noticed signs of impairment and requested the DUI unit to respond."
Court documents said that Arana "had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, glassy eyes and blood on his lip" because the airbag in his heavily damaged white SUV deployed after the crash. "Officer asked the defendant if he had been drinking and the defendant said 'yes sir,'" the documents stated. "
Police said that Arana claimed to be a reserve police officer in California and he produced a law enforcement identification card. Police said they found "several crumpled receipts" in Arana's jeans that showed he paid for a number of alcoholic beverages around 12:20 a.m.
The injured police officers were not immediately identified by police. The driver of the police car suffered back injuries and was taken to Baptist West Hospital where she was later released.
The other officer was airlifted to Kendall Regional Trauma Center for a head wound.
"Both of them were released and they are both expected to fully recover from their injuries," Cowart told Patch.
Arana was not injured, according to Miami-Dade police. But he did suffer a bite on his tongue, possibly related to the airbag.
