Do you see a dog in the video that you love? Patch is at Pinellas County Animal Services today to help raise awareness about animal adoption and to show folks some of the wonderful dogs and cats just waiting for their forever home.

So far today, Chloe has been adopted by a wonderful family. The family signed up for the morning Patch newsletter that comes for free in your email each day. The new owners also received a gift card and Patch T-shirt!

For every pet adopted, Patch is giving $10 to a foundation that helps support the animals here.

Make Sure It's a Good Match

When choosing an animal, make sure it fits your lifestyle and needs. Nothing is harder – both on humans and pets – than having to return an animal to the shelter!

1.) Consider your lifestyle. Are you active? Then adopt a pooch what wants plenty of exercise. Are you couch potato? Then consider a mature pup that wants nothing more than to curl up and watch the tube with you!

2.) Are there other animals or children in your home? Make sure your new pet is compatible. Check with shelter staff to find out if the dog or cat you're adopting gets along with other pets, and gets along with kids.

3.) Finally, remember adopting a pet is a responsibility! Your new animal has a lot of love to give. But the dog or cat also needs care. Make sure you have the time and commitment.

Adopting? What You Need to Know

We're out to help support the Animal Services at 12450 Ulmerton Road, Largo, today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., to help find good homes for all the puppies and kittens. 

• Adoption costs $25 today, $15 less than usual, and it includes the first set of shots, spaying or neutering, a collar and leash, a bag of food and a toy for the dog. We've attached an adoption form (PDF) to make it easy.

• As an added bonus, we'll be handing out Patch shirts and items for everyone and the first three adopters will receive $10 gift cards to Petsmart! We've already had one adoption, so only two cards remain!
