Corrections Sergeant Killed In Crash In Indian Rocks Beach
A 44-year-old sergeant with the Florida Department of Corrections is dead following a single-vehicle crash Monday in Indian Rocks Beach.

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, FL — A 44-year-old sergeant with the Florida Department of Corrections is dead following a single-vehicle crash Monday in Indian Rocks Beach.
Around 3:30 a.m., Pinellas County sheriff's deputies responded to the Indian Rocks Bridge and East Gulf Boulevard in Indian Rocks Beach for a crash.
According to investigators, deputies found an overturned Ford F-150. The driver, Miguel Gonzalez, was found near the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Gonzalez was driving west on Indian Rocks Bridge when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete barrier, partially ejecting him out of the front passenger window.
The truck then hit a barrier wall and several portions of the metal railing on top of the barrier wall.
Gonzalez was fully ejected from the truck onto the curb, along the north side of the roadway at the intersection of 5th Avenue North and East Gulf Boulevard. The Ford continued west, went onto the curb and sidewalk, struck a palm tree and a set of Pinellas County junction signs, then overturned on its passenger side in front of 300 5th Ave. N. Gonzalez was the only occupant.

Gonzalez was a sergeant with the Florida Department of Corrections and was assigned to Sumter Correctional Institution in Bushnell.
