5 Storm Tips for Staying Safe

Keep gas in your car. Don't drive out if you don't need to. Be aware of the location of local shelters.

Debby has hit us pretty hard and many people have experienced flooding and other outcomes from the storm. In order to stay safe, we want to let our readers know a few things that they should keep in mind during a storm from Pinellas County Hurricane Preparedness.

  1. Don't go out if you can avoid it: The more you're out, the more you're at risk. Avoid flooded streets. They may deeper than they look.
  2. Keep tuned into your alert services: There are a variety of media outlets at your fingertips. Use them.
  3. Develop a plan for your household: The preparedness plan includes stocking up on supplies and boarding up windows. If you need help coming up with a plan, check here. Do you live in a flood zone? Is there a shelter nearby?
  4. Assist friends and family: If you have family or friends who have been flooded, offer to host them up. Older and infirmed people need special help.
  5. Prepare for the worst: Keep all your important documents together, including insurance papers and IDs. Keep your vehicle gassed. If the power goes, you won't be able topump gas.
