• Safety Harbor pier reopens two years after severe hurricane damage (fox13news.com) — Safety Harbor's beloved pier is finally open again after two years of hurricane damage repairs, with a wider, sturdier design meant to better withstand future storms. The city spent just over $3 million, largely offset by state, FEMA and insurance funds, and will celebrate with a ribbon-cutting on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. Work at the nearby marina is still ongoing.
   

• The case for bringing Pinellas County's fishing piers back (stpetecatalyst.com) — Safety Harbor's successful $4 million marina pier rebuild is being held up as a model as Pinellas County leaders debate whether to restore more public fishing piers. Local officials say the downtown waterfront pier's reopening has revived a cherished sunrise, fishing and walking spot, while county tourism leaders weigh if similar projects could be funded with tourist development taxes.
