
As we celebrate Black History Month, I invite you to journey forward with me to 2090.
My daughter promised me a 150th birthday party. So now I sit back, kick off my shoes, and watch in amazement as the last guest departs.
Looking back on the span of a century and a half, I see how many things molded my life, but one image has followed me for a lifetime.

Before the age of three, I recall sitting in the back pew of a Baptist church and being given the picture of a seated Jesus surrounded by children at his feet: “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not.” Children of all races were included, and a as a little Black girl, I saw myself reflected in the Multi-hued faces of God.
This image was indelibly imprinted in my memory throughout life ... the unity of all people, loved equally by God.

And now in 2090, surrounded by my great grandchildren, I’ve lived to see the day when all racial barriers have been removed, and the oneness of all humankind is achieved.
My dream is reality.
