Looking Forward to 2013

Safety Harbor Moving Forward

Things I would like to see come through in 2013:

During my campaign, I advocated for a Christmas Boat Parade. The other day I stopped at Philippe Park and walked to the water’s edge. I envisioned people lining the shore watching decorated boats sailing and motoring by. It would be perfect, and I bet we can get a nice group of boat owners to participate. It could start in Oldsmar, wind around and circle back at the Courtney Campbell. I think it would a super ending to the day we have our Holiday Parade. Need to start planning as early as possible.

Another goofy idea came to me at the British Car Show - why not have a Classic Muscle Car Show? There are car clubs that I am sure would enjoy having their members show off their rides. A few GTO’s, some 442’s and 57’ Chevy’s.

I have wondered for years why we don’t have a “First Night” celebration. More of a party then a commercial event. Of course our brick and mortar businesses can stay open, but leave the street for dancing and socializing, not Kettle Corn and Jewelry kiosks. I know everyone wants to make a buck but can we have one festival without being plied by hucksters? Safety Harbor is famous for our festivals, but in reality I think they have morphed into more of a bazaar then a celebration.

Of course where do we start, how do we get it put together? I assume we have to start at the City. So look for Bobby to be at the podium hawking his fruit loopy ideas at a Commission meeting sometime soon.

Not before the Firmenich boondoggle is done.
