Opening Reception: "Politics, Patriotism and Pop Art"

Syd Entel Galleries and Susan Benjamin Glass welcome the 2012 Republican National Convention to the Tampa Bay area with the exhibition "Politics, Patriotism and Pop Art."

This group show features artists working in all mediums to create images that express a political or patriotic statement. Among them are:

  • Peter Max, who has created paintings of presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush in addition to the multiple-portrait installation "100 Clintons";
  • Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, who started out by drawing political cartoons;
  • Bernie Taupin, working with paint and multi-media (he is perhaps best known for his lyrical collaborations with Elton John);
  • local resident Michael Vollbracht, working in collage and giclees;
  • Nancy Pollock, working in mosaics.

The exhibition also includes a rare collection of vintage World War I posters. It runs through Sept. 29.
