Hurricane Season Reaches Halfway Point

We're only halfway through this year's hurricane season; we could still see a lot more activity. Pinellas County offers its "eSeries: Prepare to Survive" online video to help you prepare.

Does it feel like it's been a busy hurricane season?

The 2012 Atlantic hurricane season has been an active one with Tropical Storm Debby and Tropical Storm Isaac. Even though we , we could see more tropical activity because Sept. 1 marks the halfway point of hurricane season.

Statistically, the majority of the activity for the season is yet to come. Since the hurricane record began in 1855, nearly 55 percent of all tropical storms and hurricanes form during the months of September and October. To help residents prepare for the rest of this year’s hurricane season, Pinellas County is producing its eSeries: Prepare to Survive. These 15-minute programs offer an indepth look into specific disaster preparedness topics, including insurance, preparing your pet and building codes. The September edition features a discussion with Trenise Lyons of the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes addressing window taping and sand bags. The show can be seen on PCC-TV, on YouTube and online.
