Hailey has been wondering one question, ”Why are there grapefruits painted everywhere in Safety Harbor?” What about the grapefruit? Hailey stopped at the Safety Harbor Chamber of Commerce. She asked a woman named Danielle Driscoll about the grapefruits. Danielle said that a grapefruit festival took place in 2011. Hailey next went to a museum. She found out that a man named Odette Philippe was born in 1787 and brought grapefruits to America. That is what caused the celebration. The next day, Hailey interviewed the mayor of Safety Harbor (Joe). He said that the festival lasted about 3 hours. Hailey saw more grapefruits on buildings including the library and a barber shop. The next day Hailey interviewed Kiaralinda and Todd Ramquist from the bowling ball house. They were the people that planned the celebration. Hailey asked, “Why did you choose the artists that you did?” They said that some of the artists did not live near enough to do it and some of them were not interested in the project. They also said that some people painted more than one grapefruit. Hailey saw a grapefruit tree planted in honor of the festival. Grapefruits have really come a long way!
