MetroLagoons will honor the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, by hosting the Tampa 9/11 Heroes Run on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 8:46 a.m. at Mirada Lagoon in San Antonio.
The 9/11 Heroes Run welcomes runners, ruckers and walkers of all ages and fitness levels to honor 9/11 heroes and all who have stepped up to serve in the wars that followed. Held in partnership with the Travis Manion Foundation, the annual event seeks to bring communities together and honor an enduring promise to never forget. Attending the event supports the foundation’s mission of investing in veterans and families of the fallen to lead by mentoring future generations.
In addition to the annual 5K race, this year’s event features the Sgt. Antwan Walker One-Mile Memorial Run/Walk, honoring the fallen soldier’s memory. Walker, a father of three, was killed at age 22 on May 18, 2005, when enemy forces attacked his camp while he was serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Participants may choose from one of three registration options, including the 5K run for $41, the 5K ruck for $46 and the Sgt. Antwan Walker One-Mile Memorial Run/Walk for $23. Volunteer opportunities are also available, and prices will increase after Aug. 31.
