Additional Voyeurism Charges For Sarasota Acupuncturist: FDLE

SARASOTA, FL — A 62-year-old acupuncturist from Bradenton previously charged with video voyeurism in January faces new charges, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said in a news release.

Dr. Rene Michael Ng, who operates a Sarasota acupuncture practice, Chinese Medical Solutions, has been charged with eight additional counts of video voyeurism, a third-degree felony.

FDLE began its investigation on Jan. 18, when a citizen told the agency that Ng was secretly recording patients without their knowledge while they undressed.

Agents executed a search warrant at his practice on Jan. 28 and recovered two covert recording devices, FDLE said. Forensic analysis of the devices found video recordings of five patients and still images from deleted recordings of three additional patients undressing in the exam room.

The eight patients were identified, and they each confirmed with FDLE agents that they were unaware of being recorded and didn’t consent to being recorded.

Ng was booked into the Sarasota County Jail and is currently being held without bond.

Born in China, he has practiced Chinese medicine for more than 40 years, according to Chinese Medical Solutions' website. He received a master of science degree in Oriental medicine from East West College of Natural Medicine in Sarasota and a doctorate degree in acupuncture and Chinese medicine from the College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego.

As a musician, Ng performs or serves as worship leader at various local churches, including St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Longboat Key, according to his practice’s Yelp page. He's also a kung fu, tai chi and qi gong instructor in Sarasota, as well as other locations in the U.S. and China.
