After Machete Attack, Woman Leads Police On 2-County Chase: Cops

Alana Gibson, 27, faces attempted murder charges after attacking a co-worker and her husband inside their Venice home, police said.

SARASOTA, FL — A 27-year-old woman has been arrested after attacking a co-worker and her husband inside their Venice home early Sunday morning, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Alana Gibson faces various charges related to the incident including attempted murder, armed burglary of an occupied dwelling, battery and fleeing to elude.

Deputies initially responded to multiple reports of a residential burglary on Burke Road just after midnight on Sunday. When they arrived, deputies found a broken bedroom window and the husband with several lacerations on his body.

Gibson had forced her way into the couple’s home and attacked the husband with a machete while he was sleeping, deputies said. Gibson also choked the wife when she intervened in the attack on her husband, witnesses said.

When others living in the home interrupted the attack, Gibson fled, leading deputies on a vehicle pursuit into Charlotte County, where she was eventually arrested, authorities said. Detectives said they recovered the machete along with an ax, compound bow and several arrows, all belonging to Gibson.

During an interview, Gibson admitted that she was planning to kill the husband and convince the wife to run away with her, deputies said.

The husband was transported to a hospital, where he remained in stable condition.

Gibson is currently being held at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility without bond.
