1. ‘Looksmaxxing’ TikTok Influencer Faces Child Porn Charges: Sarasota Deputies (patch.com) — Sarasota residents are learning more about the arrest of 18-year-old local TikTok personality Mason Hull, known online as “Hullo,” who faces 15 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. Deputies say his ex-girlfriend discovered disturbing files and Telegram messages, leading to a forensic search of his phone and his arrest outside his Sarasota home. The sheriff’s office urges anyone with information tied to his sizable online following to contact its Investigations Bureau.
2. $20.7M land deal forces businesses near Siesta Key out (wfla.com) — Sarasota County’s $20.7 million purchase of waterfront land at Stickney Point near the south Siesta Key bridge is forcing more than 20 businesses to vacate by May 14. Longtime operators like Siesta Key Watersports say they support public water access but are scrambling to relocate complex marine operations and worried about the impact on employees and families.
3. School artists shine in annual show (yoursun.com) — Sarasota County families can catch hundreds of student artworks at the South Sarasota County School Art Show, now filling every corner of the Venice Art Center through May 13. Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the exhibit showcases inventive mixed media, ceramics, paintings, photography, and more from K-12 students, with many Sarasota County schools represented and top pieces earning ribbons and summer online features.
4. Reel Talk: Veterans take part in Sarasota fishing challenge (wfla.com) — Veterans and their spouses are gathering at the Sarasota Yacht Club for a two-day Wounded Veterans Fishing Challenge that uses time on Sarasota Bay as outdoor therapy. The event, now in its sixth year, partners with No Person Left Behind Outdoors to build confidence and connection for injured veterans. Locals can learn more or apply to participate through the organization’s website.
5. Piedmont rowers power Oakland Strokes to historic weekend at Southwest Regionals (piedmontexedra.com) — Sarasota’s Nathan Benderson Park will host the USRowing Youth National Championships in June, where Oakland Strokes is sending a record ten qualifying boats. The Bay Area club’s strong Southwest Regional performance means more young athletes and families will soon be visiting Sarasota for this major rowing event, bringing extra attention and tourism to the local venue.
