SARASOTA, FL — Investigators are working to identify human skeletal remains found Friday at a Sarasota work site on Leonard Reid Avenue in the Newtown area, according to reports.
Construction workers found the remains just before 9 a.m., and then called 911, Fox 10 said. Deputies responded and coordinated with the medical examiner, who confirmed the remains were human.
Lt. Mariah Piper told WWSB that investigators do not yet know how long the remains were at the site, the approximate age, sex or manner of death.
“We don’t have a complete skeleton at this point so we are still searching for remains,” Piper said.
The agency is also working with an anthropologist from Florida Gulf Coast University on the case.
Investigators hope to identify the remains and contact any family members who may be waiting for answers, reports said.
