Fall for Sarasota aims for 500 volunteer hours in two days of community service (mysuncoast.com) — Sarasota residents and businesses are invited next week to join Fall for Sarasota, a two-day volunteer push aiming for 500 service hours on Sept. 17–18. With 20 projects at nonprofits like Meals on Wheels and The Sarasota Players, you can sign up for morning or afternoon shifts and even volunteer as a workplace team, but some slots are already filling fast.
   

2. Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation begins new chapter of growth (sarasotanewsleader.com) — Sarasota's historic preservation community is entering a big transition as the Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation moves from an all-volunteer board to a professionally staffed organization with its first full-time executive director. Backed by Community Foundation of Sarasota County grants and a new three-year strategic plan, the group is expanding programs, advocacy, and is actively seeking local board members and volunteers to shape future preservation work.
   

3. Kerkering appointed to Sarasota County Stormwater Environmental Utility Advisory Committee (sarasotanewsleader.com) — Sarasota County has appointed former City of Sarasota emergency management chief Richard Todd Kerkering to the Stormwater Environmental Utility Advisory Committee, strengthening local oversight of flooding and drainage issues. Backed unanimously by commissioners, he'll help guide stormwater goals that support flood protection, water quality, and lower flood insurance costs for county residents, alongside other experts like fellow applicant Brandon Nichols of Sarasota.
   

4. Sarasota Jewish Theatre Presents New Play "Kaddish for the Barrio" October 7-11 (srqmagazine.com) — Sarasota theatergoers can catch the new drama "Kaddish for the Barrio" at The Sarasota Players from October 7–11, presented by Sarasota Jewish Theatre. Written by Sarasota-based playwright Gabriel V. Ortiz, the play follows a young Latino gang member, his sister, and an aging rabbi in a crumbling East L.A. synagogue, with tickets priced at $36 and multiple matinee and evening performances.
   

5. Allegiant Adds New Nonstop Flights From Sarasota, St. Pete and Punta Gorda for Spring 2027 (suncoastpost.com) — Sarasota-Bradenton travelers will gain a new nonstop Allegiant route to Providence, Rhode Island, from February 13 to April 24, 2027, adding a convenient New England option from SRQ. Combined with new Boston flights from St. Pete-Clearwater and Punta Gorda, the hyper-seasonal service gives Sarasota and nearby Suncoast residents more spring travel choices, though schedules and à la carte fees require careful trip planning.
