Stroller-Pushing Grandmother May Face Charges In Crash

A woman was crossing U.S. 301 with a child in a stroller when the Tuesday morning crash in Sarasota occurred.

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota Police Department says a 42-year-old grandmother may face charges in a Tuesday morning pedestrian crash that sent her and her 1 1/2-year-old grandson to local hospitals.

According to the agency, the woman was pushing a stroller in an attempt to cross the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 301 at 4th Street around 10 a.m. Tuesday. The woman and her grandson were subsequently struck by a Cadillac SUV.

The boy was airlifted to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg and is currently listed in stable condition, police wrote an email to media. The grandmother was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries that are described as not life threatening.

"The driver of the vehicle, age unknown, was fully cooperative with Officers and their investigation," the email said. "Charges are not expected for the driver. Charges for the grandmother are possible."

The crash closed northbound lanes of U.S. 301 (North Washington Boulevard) between Fruitville Road and 5th Street for several hours Tuesday morning.
