Coastal Orthopedics marks occasion of 100th outpatient total joint replacement surgery

Joint replacement specialist Dr. Alan L. Valadie recently performed Coastal Orthopedics Sports Medicine and Pain Management’s (CoastalOrthopedics.com) 100th outpatient joint replacement procedure.

Dr. Valadie performed an outpatient total hip replacement on a patient who is now doing well. The practice has been performing joint replacement surgery for over 30 years, currently performing nearly 1,000 of these procedures annually. Only recently has this been available in properly selected patients to be done as a same-day, outpatient procedure.

Coastal Orthopedics started performing outpatient total joint replacements at one of their two surgery centers in 2013. The Surgery Center at Pointe West opened in 1998 near Blake Medical Center, and the East Surgery Center opened in 2009 in Lakewood Ranch.

Before innovative technology allowed Coastal Orthopedics to offer outpatient total joint replacements at their surgery centers, all patients had to have the surgeries at a hospital. While the majority of patients undergoing this life-changing procedure are still best suited to have their surgery at the hospital, more and more are able to consider going straight home to recover after the procedure.
