Sarasota County Deputy Pufnock proved that Wednesday when she went out of her way to rescue a kitten she saw dodging traffic near Webber Street and Beneva Road, the sheriff’s office Facebook page said.
Pufnock was able to catch the kitten before it got hurt. The critter was turned over to Sarasota Animal Services for safekeeping.

Pufnock isn’t the only Florida police officer to have a unique brush with a critter in recent months. Earlier this week, a Tampa Police officer had a close encounter with a manatee while rescuing a dog trapped in the Hillsborough River. Sarasota police also took time out to rescue a baby duck not too long ago. On Wednesday, a Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy had a chat with a goat who decided to perch on his cruiser.
