Dictionaries Rejected By Sarasota Schools During Book Freeze: Report
After a new education law went into effect, Sarasota County Schools halted all book donations and purchases, including dictionairies.
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — Sarasota County Schools has temporarily rejected a donation of hundreds of dictionaries from the Venice Rotary Club during a freeze on all book donations and purchases for school libraries, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
The school district adopted this donation freeze because of a new Florida education law that requires all new reading materials to be selected by specially certified education media specialists and all meetings related to instructional materials to be public.
The freeze in Sarasota County will likely last until at least January as the district hires three employees to take on this role and seeks guidance from the state, reports said.
