Girls Inc., Goodwill Manasota partner to teach girls resourcefulness and independence

Girls Inc. and Goodwill Manasota partnered to present "Shabby Chic Boutique" program.

Goodwill Manasota was recently visited by 10 students from Girls Inc. Sarasota who shopped for back-to-school looks that could be reinvented to reflect their personal styles. Their new looks were debuted during the Shabby Chic Boutique Fashion Show on August 7. The fashion show is a part of the Girls Inc. Shabby Chic Boutique program, a fashion-related venture where students design and embellish fabric and donated items in a business setting while learning how to make updated looks, price inventory, set up displays, and even design and sell accessories and decorations.

“We were thrilled to partner with Goodwill Manasota on this exciting project. The Shabby Chic program is a way for the girls to express themselves, while teaching them the importance of being resourceful and independent,” said Kay Mathers, Director of Community Relations at Girls Inc. Sarasota. “Our purpose is inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold, and this program and fashion show fits right in to that mission. The girls learned valuable lessons and found a way to give back to their community, by shopping at Goodwill Manasota.”

The girls shopped with vouchers provided by Goodwill, selecting various items to build an outfit. Lunch was provided in a Goodwill Good Neighbor Community Room, where free community classes and events are regularly held.

“We are so proud to support and partner with students and children in our community through events such as donation drives, giving challenges and ambassador activities,” said Bob Rosinsky, president & CEO of Goodwill Manasota. “The girls learned about our mission to change lives through the power of work, and the impact they can have at such a young age. That’s a lesson they’ll be able to carry throughout their lives.”
