Man Hit, Killed By Tractor-Trailer While Standing On Side Of I-75: FL Troopers

A Sarasota man was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer truck while standing outside his vehicle parked on the shoulder of I-75, FHP said.

SARASOTA, FL — A 64-year-old Sarasota man was killed Wednesday morning after being hit by a tractor-trailer truck while outside his parked vehicle on Interstate 75 about three miles south of Clark Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The truck, driven by a 56-year-old Minnesota man, was heading south on I-75 just before 9 a.m.

At the same time, the victim was standing next to his vehicle, which was parked within the paved shoulder of the highway’s southbound lanes near mile marker 202, FHP said.

As the truck approached him, the pedestrian stepped directly into its path and was hit by it, troopers said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarasota County EMS.

The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating.
