Miami Man Pulled Over While Driving Mercedes Connected To South FL Burglaries: Sarasota Police

Sarasota police said a real-time alert helped officers stop a man driving a Mercedes-Benz tied to Brevard County burglaries.

SARASOTA, FL — A Miami man was arrested in Sarasota on Monday after police said a real-time alert identified a vehicle wanted by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office as it traveled through the city, Sarasota police said in a news release.

Hector Hernandez, 24, was arrested by Sarasota police officers and is facing a felony charge of possession of burglary tools.

He was spotted driving a 2024 Mercedes-Benz that was wanted by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in Sarasota.

The officers who noticed the vehicle around 9:40 a.m. learned it was used in multiple burglaries in Brevard, police said.

After pulling him over near Orange Avenue and Ringling Boulevard, officers learned that Hernandez was wanted on a warrant from Brevard County in connection with multiple burglaries while masked.

Before taking him to jail, officers also learned that the car had been used in a burglary in Brevard County around 4 a.m.

The suspect in that burglary was caught on a video recording wearing a black hoodie, black mask, black gloves, camouflage pants and dark sneakers with white soles. Officers found all of those items in the trunk and glove box of the Mercedes-Benz, police said.

“The Real-Time Operations Center is a multiplier for our officers. ROC analysts can provide real-time intelligence and support for our officers in the field. In this case, the ROC was able to quickly assist patrol in locating and arresting this burglary suspect, preventing him from potentially committing crimes our community,” Chief Rex Troche said.

Hernandez was also issued a citation for unknowingly driving with a suspended license. He is being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
