Motorcyclist Dies After Crash Near Sarasota Traffic Circle: Police

SARASOTA, FL — A 51-year-old Venice man on a motorcycle died after a Sunday afternoon three-vehicle crash near the traffic circle at Gulfstream Avenue and Bayfront Drive, Sarasota police said in a news release.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. as the motorcyclist was exiting the roundabout south onto Bayfront Drive.

Preliminary information indicates the motorcyclist attempted to pass a vehicle, hitting it before crashing into a pole, police said.

The motorcycle then entered the roadway, causing a second motorcyclist, also a man, to crash. The second motorcyclist wasn’t injured, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

That driver and the second motorcyclist aren’t facing any charges, police said.

The 51-year-old motorcyclist was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
