Motorcyclist Killed In Main Street Crash

Sarasota, FL — The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred early Friday morning along Main Street at Orange Avenue.

According to the agency, a motorcycle was heading east on Main Street around 1:46 a.m. when its rider failed to negotiate the roundabout at Orange and Main. The rider struck the roundabout and was ejected from the bike, an email from the agency said.

The rider, who has not yet been identified, died as a result of the crash, police said.

The accident forced the closing of the intersection for several hours Friday morning.

Police say speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, the email noted.
