New Sarasota K9 Officer Encouraged To Be Nosy
Bobbi, a 2-year-old German shepherd, is a bomb odor detection K9. She's trained to sniff out explosive materials and devices.
SARASOTA, FL ā With a name like Bobbi, she sounds like she might hail from Merry Old England where police officers are still known as bobbies.
In fact, the newest member of the Sarasota Police Department is a native of the central European country, Slovakia. And she brings a special skill to the police department.
Bobbi, a 2-year-old German shepherd, is a bomb odor detection K9. Sheās trained to sniff out explosive materials and devices.

The Sarasota Police Departmentās newest K9 was purchased with a donation from Boarās Head Brand. Boarās Head also paid for modifications to a patrol car for Bobbi, special equipment and training for her new handler, Patrol Officer Adam Arena.
Bobbi and Arena will be assigned to the police departmentās night shift.

"We are proud to call Sarasota home,ā Elizabeth Ward, senior director of marketing for Boar's Head Brand said. āAs a company, we believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work, and keeping them safe.ā
She said Boarās Head Brand was especially pleased to provide the police department with a K9 that has specialized training in detecting bombs.
āWe recognize the vital role the Sarasota Police Department K9 Unit plays in protecting our police force and our local area,ā she said. āWe're honored to be able to sponsor K9 Bobbi and look forward to the tremendous service she will provide Sarasota.ā
Arena said Bobbi is energetic and eager to perform the new duties for her co-workers and adopted city.
"Bobbi never wants to stop working,ā he said. āShe's a fun, playful, loving dog with a second to none high-energy drive to keep the City of Sarasota a safe place to live, work and play."
K9 Bobbi is one of four Sarasota Police Department K9s.
