Officers Rescue 2 People From Sarasota House Fire: Watch
A man and a woman were pulled to safety from a burning Sarasota home by police officers. Watch a video from the rescue.
SARASOTA, FL — Officers rescued two people Friday night after a fire started in the 2200 block of North Osprey Avenue, Sarasota police said in a news release. (Watch officer-worn body-worn camera footage from the rescues below.)
The blaze broke out just after 10 p.m. By the time officers arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Energized power lines started to come down and transformers malfunctioned, creating additional hazards around the home, police said.

A man and woman were pulled from inside the home by officers. Both sustained minor injuries.
In the body-cam footage from the scene, an officer can be heard running throughout the property, knocking on doors and yelling, “Get out! Get Out! Get Out! … Everybody, get out! Huge fire!”

The woman was carried off the property to safety by one officer.
“Thank you, Mr. officer, thank you,” she’s heard saying in the video footage.
“Sarasota police officers don’t just enforce the law, they save lives,” Chief Rex Troche said. “When others are running out, our officers are running in. That’s the commitment they make to this community every single day. I’m incredibly proud of their courage and their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to protect others.
Once the scene was secured, firefighters with the Sarasota County Fire Department put out the blaze.
The cause remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
