Third Fentanyl Awareness Walk unites hundreds across Ringling Bridge (yourobserver.com) — Hundreds of Sarasotans filled the Ringling Bridge on Labor Day for the third annual Fentanyl Awareness Walk, honoring loved ones lost and celebrating recovery. Starting and ending at J.D. Hamel Park, participants connected with local groups like Sarasota Fights Fentanyl, Guided Recovery and NAMI, and learned about free naloxone available from the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.
   

2. New downtown Sarasota restaurant could open as soon as next week (coralspringsflnews.com) — A new Filipino fast-casual spot, Tastes of the Philippines, is set to open as soon as next week in downtown Sarasota's Courthouse Centre on Ringling Boulevard. The from-scratch, build-your-box restaurant will offer grilled Filipino dishes, beer and wine, and mostly Filipino staff, adding a distinctive new option to Sarasota's rapidly growing restaurant scene.
   

3. Sarasota County weighs buying Gulf Gate golf course (mysuncoast.com) — Sarasota County commissioners are studying whether to buy the closed Gulf Gate golf course, a move that could limit new development and help address worsening neighborhood flooding. Staff will keep negotiating with the owner, analyze costs and uses, and survey nearby residents about their priorities, including whether they'd support special taxing districts to fund stormwater or other improvements.
   

4. Rodent droppings temporarily close Sarasota County pizza restaurant (heraldtribune.com) — Recent state health inspections found multiple violations at Sarasota County restaurants, including rodent droppings that temporarily closed a Nokomis pizza spot and several serious food-safety issues at Sarasota addresses. Residents can check which local eateries had high-priority violations, which passed with perfect scores, and learn how Florida's inspection and complaint system works to keep diners safe.
   

5. Sarasota to Mark 25th Anniversary of 9/11 with Memorial Ceremony at Patriot Plaza (suncoastpost.com) — Sarasota residents are invited to Patriot Plaza at Sarasota National Cemetery on Friday, September 11, 2026, for a free 25th‑anniversary 9/11 memorial from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Attendees can optionally register online, "Adopt a Fallen" victim to honor by name, and join local leaders, first responders, clergy, and musicians in a community promise to never forget.
