Pit Bull Owner's Command Bites Him In Butt: Cops

A Florida man's attempt to use his dog to get away from cops didn't work out quite as planned.

RIVIERA BEACH, FL – A 26-year-old Florida man’s attempt to get his pit bull to bite police officers didn’t turn out like he expected.

When ordered to “kill ‘em boy, kill ‘em,” the dog turned and bit its owner instead, according to a probable cause affidavit released by the Riviera Beach Police Department. The dog first bit the man in the buttocks and then tried to go for his head, the report noted.

Police say the toothy encounter unfolded around 7:30 Monday morning when officers responded to the 2300 block of Avenue S in reference to a man who fit the description of a burglary suspect. Officers found the man walking with his dog and instructed him to get on the ground.

The man, however, had other ideas and didn’t follow police orders, the report said. Instead, he got down while hugging his dog and told the officers “Y’all gonna have to kill us,” the report stated.

At that point, police say the man stood up and tried to run away. One of the officers used a department-issued “Dart Stun Gun, but one prong missed,” the report said. The man kept running with his dog while being chased by police.

According to the report, officers caught up with the man at a nearby intersection. The stun gun was used again. The attempt was a success, with both prongs striking the target. The man fell to the ground, the report noted.

It didn’t take long, however, for the man to get back up and try to run again, the report said. At that point, one of the officers struck the man with his asp and ordered him to stop resisting.

That’s when, the report said, the dog was released and ordered to attack.

The man identified as Avery Davis ended up taking a trip to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence charges.

Davis remained in jail Wednesday without bond. It’s unclear what happened to the dog.
