To Plate or Polish… That Is The Question!
At Forms In Sculpture, our metal smiths can make recommendations in polishing vs. plating your metal surfaces.
Here at Forms In Sculpture we offer both options of polishing and re-plating of your metal items. Our area of expertise is with metal items consisting of silver, copper, brass, pewter and nickel. Plating comes into consideration if an item is pitted or the base metal is coming through where the plated metal has come off.
Polishing or Plating is dependent on what the desired outcome is for your item and the condition of your item. In some cases, your silver, copper, brass or other metal just needs to be polished to bring back the original beauty; plating is not always necessary. Upon inspection, our metal smiths can make recommendations in polishing vs. plating your metal surfaces.
With polishing you can change the look of your item by simply applying a different finish to the piece. Some finishes that we offer are high polish, satin, and antiqued. With plating, you can give your piece a more drastic change by changing the overall metal from a copper to a brass or silver tone. Re-plating can be a subtle look or quite drastic depending on the plated metal and finish selected.
