Pro-Choice Rally Planned Overnight Friday In Downtown Sarasota

With Roe v. Wade overturned by the Supreme Court, Women's Voices of SW Florida will host a rally and sit-in Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

SARASOTA, FL — Women’s Voices of Southwest Florida will a rally and sit-in Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in downtown Sarasota to protest the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The court on Friday released its 6-3 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization and struck down Roe v. Wade, the country's landmark abortion ruling.

Protesters will meet at Selby Five Points Park, 1 Central Ave., and will march to the Sarasota County Court, 2002 Ringling Blvd.

“This year has been disgusting for reproductive justice, for Black, Brown, and Indigenous people and POC (people of color), for the LGTBQIA+ community, for humans seeking asylum in USA and for education,” the rally’s Facebook event page description said. “Tonight, we will take to the streets — from sunset until morning. The darkest hour is that before dawn. We will not go back.”

The organization said that it is planning future marches in downtown Sarasota.
