$3 Million Storm Damage Estimated in Sarasota County
The county's damage assessment teams have visited more than 350 properties in the wake of Sunday morning's storms.

SARASOTA, FL — As Sarasota County residents begin to clean up after Sunday morning’s storms, the county’s damage assessment teams have hit the road to survey properties impacted by high winds and a tornado that ripped through the area.
As of late Sunday morning, the county estimated it has surveyed more than 350 properties. Early damage estimates are greater than $3 million, county officials reported on Twitter. Fewer than 45 properties sustained damage, the county noted.
Many residents in Sarasota County remained without power early Sunday afternoon and some structures have been completely destroyed.
Residents who have storm damage to report may do so by calling 941-861-5000.
As cleanup efforts continue, the county is urging residents to “stay home, stay safe,” according to its Facebook page.
Florida Power & Light estimates service to more than 6,000 customers in Sarasota County will be restored by 6 p.m. Sunday.
