Sarasota Health and Rehabilation Center Inhumane Treatment

Yesterday May 30th 2018 turned into the day from hell. I literally thought I was going to watch my brother John Savage choke to death in front of my eyes and nobody could help him.
I went to Sarasota Health and Rehabilation Center in Sarasota Florida to accompany my brother to a dermatology appointment in Tampa Florida. The transport came and I rode with my brother when we got to the Robert Norman Dermatology center located at:

8002 Gunn Hwy, Tampa, FL 33626

they asked what he was doing there. I told them he has an appointment here today to see about his skin cancer. They told me that they told the Rehabilation Center there was no need to send my brother on a two hour trip because they have a doctor that goes there once a month and to put my brother on the list so he could be seen there however the person on the phone from Sarasota Health and Rehabilitation Center did not care and refused to listen and it wasn't the first time either.
My brother is paralyzed on his left side has a feeding tube and a tracheotomy. He can't walk so he was on a transport bed. It was very hard to maneuver the bed down a hallway and into a room where the doctor could examine my brother. The doctor and the staff there were excellent and also mortified that they sent my brother there when he could have and should have been seen at the Sarasota Health and Rehabilation Center where he currently resides. The doctor also explained to me that this was not the right thing to do and they instructed the facility not to do this. After my brother was examined and was being wheeled out he started to slip down in the bed. I told them to please move him up so the tracheotomy would not compromise his breathing and his head needed to be at a 30 degree angle so he would not choke and vomit. When they moved my brother up a strap got caught from the bed and the tracheotomy got ripped out and my brother started bleeding and chocking. The dermatology office is not equipped to help anyone in my brothers condition and neither was the transport company. My brother also now needed to be succenoned as he couldn't breathe, however they had no equipment to perform this procedure. I give them an A+ for efforts and their bedside manners they were outstanding. They had to call the paramedics to come and help my brother. There I am standing there scared to death and nobody could help him we were all helpless till the wonderful paramedics arrived on the scene and got things under control. They took us to St. Joe's North Hospital in Lutz Florida. The paramedics were able to put the trach back in and the hospital took xrays to be sure everything was fine medically with my brother however my brother was stressed out and so was I.

Why Sarasota Health and Rehabilitation Center sent my brother two hours away is beyond me and the doctors as well at the dermatology center when they argued with them when they made the appointment. They should have sent a qualified nurse along with my brother but failed to do so and my brother could have died right in front of my eyes. They also failed to send olong adult depends so my brother could be changed. Thank God for the hospital and the excellent care he received from the paramedics. I stood there in the hallway crying my eyes out watching this all unfold in front of me wondering if this was all really happening.

My brother had an appointment scheduled the previous week and it was postponed. Reason being I was told was because they ordered a transport to bring him there and they realized he needed to be transported in an ambulance in case anything happened in route he would be able to receive proper medical treatment. So why then when was he not transported in an ambulance or why did they not send a licensed nurse with him along with oxygen as well? When the transport company asked if a nurse was going with the nurse in my brothers room said, "No I don't have time I have to much work to do here."
Yes, someone will be held accountable for this horrible experience and my excruciating migraine I have now.

The Florida Health Department is no help at all. They check out the facility after you call them and tell them when they are arriving this this gives them time to clean up their facility.

Fox News and President Trump along with any newspapers this is something you might want to sink your teeth into and take a bite out of facilities like this and put them out of business before more people die from the lack and care of concern for human life.
