Sarasota Memorial Day Parade: Things to Know

The event kicks off Monday, May 25, at 10 a.m.

Tampa Bay area residents who want to kick off Memorial Day Monday with a parade may want to head to Sarasota to take in the festivities. There are some things, however, that visitors need to know about.

The parade itself starts at 10 a.m. at Main Street and Osprey Avenue in downtown. As the city prepares for the event, a number of street closings are planned to make way for the crowds.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, the following street closures and tow away zones will be enforced on Monday, May 25:

  • 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Gulfstream Avenue from Cocoanut Avenue to McAnsh Square
  • 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Main Street from U.S. 301 to Gulfstream Avenue
  • 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Links Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
  • 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Osprey Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard

Vehicles not removed from the areas by closing times will be towed, the department warns. Anyone who has a vehicle towed may call Upman’s Towing at 941-365-7084 for recovery information.

When the parade concludes, a ceremony will be staged at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park, at the corner of Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue. The anticipated start time of the ceremony is 11 a.m.
