Sarasota Police Investigating Elementary Student With Knife

SARASOTA, FL -- The Sarasota Police Department is currently investigating an altercation that occurred at Alta Vista Elementary on Wednesday, April 4.

The incident was not reported to Sarasota Police until Thursday, April 5.

A student had a knife on campus and poked another student with it. The student was not physically harmed.

The Sarasota Police Department has been working with school administrators to thoroughly investigate this incident. The Sarasota County School District has told the Sarasota Police Department that the student with the weapon was immediately suspended from school and will remain out of school until the investigation concludes at which time further disciplinary action may be recommended.

This case remains under investigation. No arrest has occurred yet. Criminal charges have been sent to the State Attorney's Office for review.
