Sarasota Police Say Human Remains Found On Gillespie Avenue

SARASOTA, FL -- The Sarasota Police Department and the District 12 Medical Examiner's Office is investigating human remains that were discovered in Sarasota.

On Monday, April 16, at about 3:30 p.m., children playing near a small body of water in the 1900 block of Gillespie Avenue located what they believed to be human remains. The children alerted an adult nearby who called 911.

The Sarasota Police Department dive team searched the small body of water while crime scene technicians collected evidence.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the District 12 Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the remains found were human. At this time, it's too early in the investigation for the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the race, sex or
age of the individual.
