Sarasota Toddler Dead After Apparent Drowning
The 3-year-old's body was discovered Friday morning in a Sarasota pool.

SARASOTA, FL ā The Sarasota County Sheriffās Office is investigating the Friday morning drowning death of a 3-year-old girl.
According to the agency, deputies received a call about the possible drowning just before 10:30 a.m. Friday. When they responded to the home in the 3200 block of Henrietta Place, they found the girl at the bottom of a swimming pool.
The child was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the sheriffās office said. She, however, died following the incident.

Detectives say they believe the drowning was accidental.
Accidental drowning is estimated to be the cause of about 10 deaths a day in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Of these, two are children aged 14 and younger," the agency reported on its website. "Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States."
