Missing Sarasota Kayaker's Body Found

The 66-year-old man was reported missing Tuesday after a trip along the Myakka River.

SARASOTA, FL — A missing Sarasota man's body has been found in a canal within the Deer Prairie Creek Preserve in Venice.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the body has been identified as Tommy Trousdale, 66, of Sarasota. Trousdale's body was found about a mile from the south entrance to the preserve, the sheriff's office wrote in an email to media.

A search for Trousdale began Tuesday after he failed to return to his Sarasota home from a morning kayaking outing on the Myakka River. Deputies searched Tuesday evening by helicopter, boat and mounted patrols, but were unable to locate Trousdale.
