A child and his mother were injured in the Wednesday morning accident, police say.

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that sent a woman and one of her sons to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the agency, a mini-van driven by an adult female veered away from the westbound lanes of Mound Street around 9:15 a.m. and struck a palm tree. Three children were inside the van at the time. One of those children, a 6-year-old twin boy, and the woman were injured. The other two children, boys, ages 6 and 1, are now with their father, the police department reported.

The names of those involved are not being released at this time. It is unclear why the driver veered off the road.
